Sprips

Sorry for the delay, things have been going on, first here’s some stuff:

 

I’m not entirely convinced of what I’m doing, nothing looks solid right now, the ideas are mostly fine, but the workflow and time are not the best, especially because I’ve decided to complicate my life even more and try to do costume/armor changing, I haven’t even put anything in game yet, just the sprite work is troublesome enough, I really wanted to do it but at this rate I don’t know if it’s going to be worth it.

Anyway, some info:

The new window size I’m thinking of using is 1280 x 720, as opposed to GHV’s 960 x 540, which means resource use should be higher (I assume), and the sprite size I’m showing here should be the final, or maybe a bit smaller, also I’ll be using Game maker studio 2, there are different and new things about it so I’ll have to learn some new stuff along the way.

As for the next idea, these sprites could be from it, I don’t want to say exactly what it is because I’m doubting already so things might change, but the main idea would be rpg-esque style, again, it could change.

 

I don’t know what else to say for now, so feel free to ask.

First of all I want to thank all for your support, those of you who bought the game and those of you who waited patiently for so long, thanks.

So, also first of all, there were some things I said I was, maybe, going to do, like the new game plus and harder difficulty, I’m sorry but after the gallery fiasco I really don’t have the energy or will to keep adding more stuff; I think we can call it officially done, unless there are new game breaking problems, I am officially moving to a new project.

Regarding GHV though, I have to say first, as you noticed version 1.08 was already uploaded and fixed some problems, like a map desync problem and an instance where you could move past a key into a trigger that would block your path back, meaning you wouldn’t be able to go back to get the key, getting you stuck, worst part is, there’s save point there, if you save you are stuck forever; I’m talking about the part when you arrive to the bloody safe room for the first time, there’s a key before that, which is a very obvious pick and is very unlikely that you would not get it, but it’s still a huge oversight, anyway that was fixed in 1.08, but it also introduced a new text error at the very beginning, I made a small modification and overlooked wrapping the text, so the text goes out the dialog box, I’ll upload a new version eventually but I want to wait and see if I can fix other problems to avoid updating just for one small fix. Also, Japanese translation of course was added. In the end though 1.07 is perfectly fine, no need to update unless the map thing bothers you (if you even noticed at all) or care about the Japanese translation.

Also, DLsite release happened as you may have noticed, I never publicly announced it.

This is not from anything yet, this is just practice.

Anyway, I don’t know what’s next yet, I have some ideas but I haven’t decided yet. Before anything what I want to do is do some practice runs and set up a reliable basis for everything, problems is I thought the improvement was going to be bigger but I’m hesitant to call the sprites “better” at this point, and it’s still very time consuming, that hasn’t changed.

I’ll talk more about it in future posts, as I’ve said before I want to make some changes that may not be popular so we’ll see, for now I’ll keep practicing and trying to improve on the base frame work to try and make the process a bit easier.

Also, there still the question of if I should do a “normal” game for steam (as I once said) or a smaller game first or something like that before going into a bigger project, we’ll see, the best way to proceed would be to start a new project right away to avoid wasting time because as we know time is kind of a thing, there won’t be any polls, but still let me know what you think.

I hate doing so many revisions, especailly since the whole thing needs to be downloaded again, but hopefully this is the last one unless there’s a major problem (there probably is) and before the Dlsite version, which I haven’t had the time to work on so far.

Heres a list of the last fixes from the version log:

– 1.07

Added a few missing elements to the the gallery

Fixed several gallery and skip issues

Fixed menu issues caused by previous additions

Added Ghostly Prison to the Gallery (available after finishing the game)

Added Skip Area to the Gallery (available after finishing the game)

Added a shortcut to the Base Level floor to improve backtracking near the end of the game.

Added the position of the Eye Walls to the map.

Fixed a glitch where enemies very rarely duplicated when ending a struggle sequence.

Fixed an error caused sometimes when absorbing the attack orb at the second boss fight.

Fixed a glitch that caused animations to stop looping in the Sprite Gallery.

Hello nerds,

Sorry I’ve been very very distracted because I’ve been having Paypal problems (because of course), so I’ve had to deal with that, I don’t think it’s anything serious, just standard procedures, but some information is not being taken super easily, Ironically Patreon seems like a good option now (yes I know, shut up).

Anyway, I’m working on the gallery and stuff, I don’t know when it’ll be ready, it’s trickier than I expected but it shouldn’t be more than a couple of weeks from now, sorry, this one is my fault (everything is my fault), I wanted to release the updates with the DLsite version but I don’t know how much that one is going to take since that one is half out of my control, so it depends which one is out first.

So most fixes are done at this point, there’s a couple more that I’ve been holding in case there’s more to fix, I don’t know if I should upload it right away or wait until the gallery is ready.

Also there’s a couple of cryptic bugs that I just don’t understand or can’t detect, mainly one that after beating the game once and starting again, supposedly it stops at the sex machines part, if you beat the game and started over please let me know if you had a problem.

If you have a bug that I missed or a new one please let me know, and again, if you made a comment last time that I didn’t get to and you think it’s important also let me know, there’s a lot and I could’ve missed a few.

 

Update:

1.06 test

This is a stealth release of 1.06, for now I consider it a test version, I would like to ask those who already finished it to please test the galleries and especially the skip option, I’m not confident enough to put it as the main download yet, so your testing is appreciated. I almost broke the save/load system so I would also want to ask you to load your previous saves and see if they load properly (just load, don’t save on it yet), and to test the skip option choose an empty slot or one you don’t mind replacing, just to be sure for now, or better yet make a backup of your saves; if you do don’t copy the DATA shortcut, you have to go in and copy the actual files.

Update 1.02 (Update 1.05)

Please download this executable; this should fix the most serious issues found in 1.01 (1.02 and 1.03)

Ghost Hunter Vena 1.05

Update 3: Sorry for this one, 1.05 fixes some map errors and a critical one where the map stopped working completely, it only fixes these map errors, if you don’t feel like downloading the executable again just for that here are some steps to avoid this problem:

1. Every time you load a game press M to see the map before doing anything else, this will prevent the map from resetting.

2. If you already had the problem and saved, it means you saved with the map reset, to fix this go back to the point where you got the map (outside the sex machine room), the event that gives you the map will play again, press M to see it and save.

Update 2: (1.04 Has some important fixes like the dragging enemies freezing and a story sequence error that broke because one of the previous fixes, not game breaking but not great looking, the map had a few problems, I think still has a minor one but not abig deal for now, and the first boss had a small rebalance and an attack sign added, I still can’t get enemies to duplicate)

Update 1: (updated to 1.03, the main additions are the option to cycle through floors while viewing the map and the looping animation on defeat, I hope those things didn’t break anything else, but I’m sure you’ll let me know if they did, the unchecked things on the list I haven’t been able to figure out, I’ll keep looking for those)

I do want to improve the map but I’m not sure how, the most important thing I think would be to cycle through floors at any moment but I can’t think of a way that doesn’t disrupt the game too much, I can’t pause and I don’t want to use any extra buttons aside from the ones already in use, any ideas?

About the gallery, I’ll try the skip but an easier option would be a sequence player that brings you back to the menu once the particular sequence is over, I’ll see about that, the reason why I didn’t do the skip from the start is because it didn’t turn out so easy as I thought, also I’ll guess I’ll have a prison style gallery like xenotake, I wanted to do something different and I FAILED but hey that’s life, you will always fail no matter what you do, I don’t feel like putting the effort to “improve” the gallery already in the game, the prison seems like the better option to put effort into. This will take a while tho, probably will be ready with the DLsite version some weeks from now.

There are still some bugs (probably), I couldn’t see them or replicate them, like enemies duplicating still apparently and a freeze that happens when being dragged across the screen by certain traps, sorry I couldn’t get to everyone but there was a lot and I was trying to fix the most important ones. Feel free to report again previous problems you had if you don’t see them fixed in the list from last post or in the version log for 1.02, I’ll read comments from last post to make sure I didn’t miss anything but is better if you just comment again.

About getting stuck, I’m seeing a lot of instances where you are forgetting the jump ability, there are always foreground pillars in areas where you can jump up or drop down to reach a new floor, the map also has markings in those areas but I guess that’s not very noticeable, there’s one getting stuck that was actually an error and is fixed in this version, if this specific problem happened to you (after the chained door room sequence) and you saved, this version should automatically fix your save and put you right next so you can continue this time with the fix. I don’t think there’s any other instance where you get stuck out of a glitch if you think so let me know.

Also, if you have the answer I appreciate it if you help answer gameplay related questions.

Thanks everyone, this is kind of a disaster tho. I haven’t even had the time to fix the demo, I’ll be doing fixes for the next couple of weeks or longer if necessary so feel free to let me know if you find new problems.

Ghost Hunter Vena 1.0 — Full Release (1.01 Update)

Well here it is.

Ghost Hunter Vena 1.01

I really hope there are no bugs or glitches, please let me know if you find any to update within the following days or as fast as possible if they are serious.

So it’s finally done, for now I won’t ramble too much since that’s not what you’re here for and I’m tired. There are a few things I didn’t end up doing like the skip option after finishing and the new game plus/extra difficulty, there were not as easy as I expected, I might include them for the DLsite version (and of course I’ll update this one) and maybe there can be more additions (within reason), so let me know what you think, especially if there’s something wrong.

Also, there are three prices, please don’t feel obligated to pay more just of the sake of it, $7 is the base price, extra is for those who wanted to contribute out of generosity.

– Have you been using the fly ability? if there’s a pillar in the foreground, it means there’s something up.

– To get to the bottom half of the upper level first you have to go down to the library (through the dungeon or through the elevator) then keep going to the right until you find a way up.

Fix Maid Boss (second boss) error, this is making the fight more difficult than it should be. ( Fixed)

Added: Maid Boss – Reduced HP, Reduced Attack Speed.

– Fix Brute Boss (third boss) error by getting hit by a belt at the end of the fight, rare. ( Fixed)

– Fix potential game breaking error going for the first time into the chained door, to avoid this complete that sequence before going out. ( Fixed)

Improve Toad’s behaviour. (Reduced jump lenght, removed damage during attack stance to prevent stunlock, only does damage while jumping)

– Fix Final Boss grabs not doing damage. (Fixed, added speed to the drag in hard mode, added invincibility to the beam charge)

Add location indicators to the map (safe room, library,etc)

– Fix certain sprites after accessing the gallery and  going back to normal game. ( Fixed)

– Fix tied walking state during third boss going through solid objects. (Fixed)

A trigger in the prison sometimes not appearing after getting the Projection power up.  (Fixed)

Release date, final details, pricing and stuff

Release is going to be hopefully by the end of next week, what I’ve been doing is testing and finalizing details and I want to give it at least one more week, I say hopefully because there’s one big problem and that’s the FPS drop that I’ve had since last time and haven’t been able to find the problem if there’s any, I doubt it’s a specs problem, there were some reports of low FPS last time, just to be sure if you had a consistent 60 fps I appreciate if you let me know your systems specs. (Press F8 to check FPS) I’m starting to believe most people had 50, if that’s really the case then we’re in trouble. Update: I have a possible solution, if it works for me I’ll update the demo for testing purposes as soon as possible, thanks all for your help.

There’s also a spike in CPU the moment a dialog starts, have you noticed that? That one I know why it happens, but I don’t know how severe it is or if it will bring problems, I hope not. Update: Is not actually a CPU spke, my bad, nothing to worry about.

Just as last time price will be $7 (paypal only), additionally I had a few emails suggesting an optional price, as in 7 as base price and optional higher prices for those who want to pay a bit more as an extra, this is inspired as an alternative to the patreon discussions and suggestions, so let me know what you think about that, I’m not entirely sure if I want to do that either way though. No extra content or rewards by the way, just your own generosity. I don’t even know if such thing is possible to do though, if it’s too much work then definitively I wouldn’t do it, because I’m lazy like that.

Also, in case you care DLsite version and by consequence the Japanese version will be ready a couple of weeks after, as always that one is going to be a couple of dollars more expensive.

Anyway, there you go.

 

Update 2:

This is the possible FPS fixed version, those who had FPS problems please could you check if this version solves the problem without the workarounds (youtube, other games, etc), to me it does, only when you go to windowed mode (alt+enter) sometimes the FPS goes down, but if you go back to fullscreen or move to a different room the FPS should go back to 60, also, could you run the previous version right before or after to confirm that it is indeed still running with drops in the same conditions? Thanks.

(This is only a FPS test, any new error is due to incomplete code caused by hastily putting togheter some changes from the final into the trial without testing properly, but it shouldn’t be a problem in the final, I’ll try to fix that but this is a FPS test only for now, thanks.)
