Demo Update 0.3

After 53.6 years here’s the final demo update that is also the trial version, it doesn’t have that much more content compared to the last demo but it has the final polish, so is accurate to what the full release will be, this is the final demo before the full version which is coming soon, less than a month from now maybe (MAYBE) but as always, anything could happen.

If you want you can also use this save file with the final version, I don’t think it’s a big deal to start over but there’s the option either way.

If you find bugs, glitches, weird stuff or if there’s something I said I was going to do but forgot let me know.

IMPORATANT: In the main menu go into configuration at least once before starting a new game… because I’m dumb, also make sure to select a file after selecting new game, cursor won’t be visible until you move up or down.

Some things:

Naked only difficulty: Sorry, I tried but in the end it wasn’t easy and didn’t seem worth it.

Perma-death difficulty: Might do that with a new game+ mode, I think is doable, we’ll see.

Edit 3: I didn’t want to update this demo but seen how horrible it turned out I’ll upload an updated version tomorrow or so, if you haven’t downloaded it yet you better wait for 0.4.

    • works fine for me, i did run into a crash as soon as you get control over your character but i found out that was because i didnt actually select a save slot and just pressed x when you were supposed to use the arrow keys to select a slot.

      • If you have a blank screen alt+tab out it and come back, or alt+enter to go windowed mode then go back to fullscreen. maybe that’ll do it.

  7. Everything looks really great. I definitely think GHV will be one of the best h-games that have come out in a loooong time.

    The following is important IMO
    *The following list is hard mode ONLY* :
    -reduce/remove invuln time after escape

    -add random delay to the pre-attack movement of monsters ranging from -1s to 1s (maybe -2s to 2s maximum).. this makes muscle memory less useful

    -increase escape progress bar decay rate based on something like: yellow/red flashing state OR *new* stamina stat OR *new* pleasure stat. Hidden stats should work fine / no UI work needed. Could be hard mode only.

    -shorten initial escape directional arrow timing window by 30%-50%

    Tiny easy change/annoyance only:
    Vena’s initial cinematic walk animation is faster than her actual walk motion. Just speed up the move speed to match the animation.

    If you don’t want to do the hard mode changes, I will probably try my best to do a memory modification for them but I may need help from you for finding initial number values so I can do memory scanning for them. The best case scenario is you change them… or even better would be to add them as values that we can change in an .INI or config file.

      • Don’t underestimate your player’s abilities to breeze through content you think is hard. There is also an ero-romance revolving around the inability to escape h-content as a suprise given random factors like monster attacks and random timings so long as it isn’t a vast majority of the interactions. Being able to achieve the same outcome in every situation is boring to people like me. Especially when ero content (losing) is rewarding on its own. It forces good players to have to fail intentionally to see the ero content which is a buzzkill as it defeats the purpose in this case. Maybe you understand what I mean but I do know that not everybody enjoys the same things. As an aside, you could always just add a new difficulty and name it “boned” lol.

      • Oh also Z/stun repeat rate is way too low. I can just mash the Z key with impunity which really trivializes timing to hit monsters. It needs at least an extra 1 second on cooldown.

        Entering doors shouldn’t display an “Up” arrow if space is they interaction key either. Small quirt but I guess you get used to it.

      • To display the grapple pose longer while having a smaller escape input window, try delaying the display of the input direction indicator so you get to look at sexy grapple poses longer before being prompted for an input.

      • Let me add my 25 cent word about this new demo: I like Easy difficulty of this version. I don’t play hentai games on Hard as well as some guys who like to enjoy the plot & hentai action, probably, too, so if it’s possible to leave Easy difficulty as it is and modify only other difficulty levels, or maybe make a poll about difficulty problems – that would be awesome. Also I like improved controls of this demo, maybe I’m wrong, but they are much better and responsive than previous ones. On other hand, speaking frankly, I expected more new content revealed in this demo than it was shown, but if full version is released soon then it’s not a problem, I hope, we’ll be able to buy it soon then 🙂

        @boned, about that grapple part. I don’t think it works that way. You can start escaping the moment you’re grabbed, I believe. The bar just isn’t visible yet.

      • Yeah, I’m aware that you can try to escape the grapple immediately. These are all game design suggestions @anonymous. The issue is that if the grapple escape window is shortened then the grapple escape animation display time will be shortened as well and since vos has obviously done custom grapple escape animations then it would be a waste to overly shorten them for difficulty increase. To solve that issue, the escape input arrow display could be delayed so the grapple animation is displayed long enough while only shortening the escape input window.

        @darkexecutor2 In the original post I’m fairly obviously stating that these suggestions are for “hard mode ONLY”.

    Yay, another bug report! After letting some 3-legged dudes have theri way with Vena multiple times (pink struggle-bar) and picking the glove up repeatedly, I eventually got this error when picking the glove up:

    Also, a few notes, or suggestions rather:

    – Give us more of the struggle animation while Vena is clothed! Increase the time it takes for enemies to deplete the energy bar (increase the time it takes for them to rip the clothes) or add a longer, fancy animation when they do rip her clothes are two possibilites that come to mind

    – Give us a reason why we should care about the pink struggle-bar (if there isn’t any later in the game)
    One possibility could be to add an “aggression meter” that indicates that the ghosts get more sexually frustrated. Managing a pink struggle-bar should increase the meter, failing to break free while the pink struggle-bar is active should give also a nice bump to that “agression meter”, but also hurting Vena in some respect. The “agression meter” can deplete either over time, or if you kill or break free from ghosts.

    • Did you change the controls? in the directory where the game is located, go to the DATA shortcut and delete the file “controldata”, then run the game. That should reset the controls.

      Go into configuration at least once before starting a new game.

    I’m interested, did you pick where the demo ends arbitrarily, or is it right before an event?

    • There’s normally an enemy in that room, whitout defeating that enemy you can’t continue so it was an easy point to end it by just removing the enemy.

    For some reason when I turn on V sync, It removes the smoothing.
    To fix it I have to turn the smoothing off and then on again.

    If it’s any help, I get 45 frames per second with my 580 GTX.

    BTW, Does Vena have a slower walking pace now?

    • 45 with Vsync on or off? I’ll check but I don’t know if I can do much there, maybe I can fix the smoothing part, but the FPS I don’t know.

      • It might be a coincidence but when I tested it just now it started running at 50 fps, after restarting my computer it went back to 60, both vsync on and off, maybe there’s something still in memory erased after restarting, I’ll have to do more tests.

        Well I ran into some bugs if your interested.

        1. After the dialog scene about the sex machines. I exited the room where you first meet the tentacle crawler that leap at you. Once I knocked him off after a clothed struggle he turned into a floating ghost. I tried to repeat this bug for a good ten minutes but couldn’t.

        2. When I walked back out of the room with the Eye Spike creature and back in. You can see the blond’s foot, as if shes standing in mid air.

        Impossible to complete the operation. The file contains an unwanted virus or software. (Translation from my language)
        Then it deletes the game app.
        When I try to open the ”data” it says that the link is not aviable (as if it is a copy of a starter of a deleted app), and to make sure the disc is inserted correctly or the web source aviable, and then try again.

      • Ok, the reason why the “data” shortcut tells you that is not because of a CD but because it needs to go to a folder for the game, the game needs to run at least once for that folder to be created.

        If your system is detecting a virus (false positive most likely), I can’t do much there. I would tell you to to put it on your excpetion list but if you really caught a virus you’ll have to do that at your own risk, again, it’s most likely a false positive.

        Run Malwarebytes, superantispyware or any other anti malware/antivirus of your choice and try again, or wait to see if something else comes up or if any other user can give us better advice.

        Thanks, just making sure I didn’t miss anything. Excellent game so far. The only technical error I noticed so far other than what was already addressed, was that VSYNC does not stay enabled when exiting the game. The menu will show that VSYNC is enabled when re-opening the game, but there will be crazy screen tearing until VSYNC is disabled and re-enabled.

    After reading Lewdgamers review for Xenotake (which I found unnecessarily negative,) I was stuck on the criticism of lack of re playability. Which brought me to a YouTube channel named Summoning Salt.

    Here I saw gamers collecting into cult followings dedicating their time and resources to polishing and perfecting game play to the best possible completion.

    Seeing how Ghost Hunter Vena is an action side scroller with RPG elements. A perma-death scenario which pushes the player back to the room after the introduction with progress loss would demand your hardcore audience to find preferable tactics and which RPG stats to best pursue. Also, placing a time code after the game is beaten would help with speed runs.

    I also believe that this will place a risk reward element to have sex with enemies. For progressing through the game brings the want to see new lewd animations, but also leaves you at risk of defeat and losing all your progress. (I believe this is the answer to your idea of not wanting to reward players for loosing.)

    Plus some of us love being pulled through the mud with harsh difficulty with the chance of sexual stimulation; it makes the whole ordeal more satisfying. Plus I believe I don’t just speak for myself when I say it would be such a shame to experience your work of art that took years of your labor to finish in one night. ッ

    Oh and back on the Lewdgamer subject, you really showed their asses by making 6th best on all time ranking for DLsite English ay? Damn good job for your first game.

  35. When I am in fullscreen my screen is black, I try Alt+Tabbing and it’s still black, but when I am in windowed it is fine. Also when I got to the part where you get taken advantage of first time the screen froze.

    • I had this issue with xenotake from a long time ago. Likely just an issue with the game engine.

    • You are correct, I doubt I can do anything from the game itself, the only thing I can say is to alt+tab or to alt+enter, other than that I have no idea why that happens, sometimes it happens randomly to me too, even tho it’s always while testing from Game Maker, never when running the EXE.

      Have you tried compatibility mode from properties or changing priority from the task manager?

      As far as I know it has nothing to do with the game.

        I also uses Bitdefender. You have to whitelist the game on Bitdefender to be able to play it. This is how I did it:

        1. Go to “view futures” under the Bitdefender-sheild icon on the menu.
        2. Go into settings under “Advanced Threat Defense” and add the GHV launcher to the whitelist.

        If the game keeps getting deleted by Bitdefender – try whitelisting the game under “SAFE FILES > Application Access” as well.

  40. I found a transformation glitch in the rooms with the two small four legged ghosts. After being grabbed once or attacking it once, the next time it grabs you it turns into a hand. If you break free from the hand it remains a hand.

    2: i had a very odd bug that when i was about to be raped in the room where you encounter the man ghosts it was game over automatic
    3: i also had the bug where my pc thought your game was a virus

    • 2. That’s not really a bug, if it happened when a bunch of ghosts appear it’s almost a mandatory game over so another dialog can play.

      Yeah it’s scripted to trigger more story plot, but it’s also possible to avoid that event happening entirely if you cautiously wait a little to pick off two of the first set of hands that show up before the other ghosts. Then it’s easier to kite the other ghosts: the 2 humanoids, and 2 hands.

  45. I followed the advice you gave on how to not have the game crash, and encountered no technical problems. Beyond that…

    I remember your opposition to having sex scenes and animations that you have to lose fights to see, and I agree with it, so please don’t think that’s what I’m asking for when I say: I REALLY dislike the smash-cut-to-respawn thing that happens when you get defeated in Xenotake and Ghost Hunter Vena.

    I’m not expecting this to be changed, considering how far the game is in development, but I think it’d be much better if the protagonist just didn’t get up from the normal knockdown state, while a “press button to continue” prompt showed.

    I really like the game, so far, otherwise.

        I think the issue is that it cuts right to black once you lose. just play the regular animation for a bit, and then let her fall down and squirt some cum out, with the prompt to push a button to be taken to the “respawn chamber”

        The idea is that when the ghost is finished with Vena and falls forward, instead of getting up again she stays on the ground (maybe with cum visibly dripping out of her) and you can press a button to be taken to the respawn chamber (either by just cutting to the chamber or by having a ghost pick her up and drag her off)

        The ghost carrying Vena away maybe, but the rest should be relatively simple, no?
        Instead of tying the length of the animation to the struggle-bar, make it a set length (or animation cycles to be precise) and cut to black after that. For the cum leaking, you’d have to animate only the cum, as the pose of Vena is already existing. Having a ghost taking Vena away would be great, but that would indeed require you to create a whole new animation.

      • Basically, just a normal grapple/assault plays out, but Vena doesn’t get up. She just lies on the ground and does her “exhausted breathing” thing while the ghosts hang around menacingly. You press a button to transition to the “escape from your bindings” scene.

        You know how when you run out of health in Doom or other old first-person shooters, your character screams and the camera falls to floor level, and things just stay that way until you press the spacebar, or something, to respawn? Like that.

  46. Really though why do they not respond that much to losing their virginity by ghosts besides mild embarrassment. This is proboblly pure autism on my part but I always felt a disconnect between the gameplay/sex and the dialogue.

    • Well It would be depressing to see them react more realistic

    • I believe Vosmug has brought this up in a past comment section. From what I can recall, He really wasn’t too keen on exploring such themes as sexual trauma or ptsd.

      and as you may, be willing to ask or want him to venture further into those themes. I’m sure what we see in the demo is the limits he himself finds comfortable exploring in this medium.

      Lets remember, hardcore sex was struck from Prisonkage because Vosmug seemed bothered with it mixing with violence and distress.

      • It doesn’t even have to be PTSD or trauma, maybe she just becomes more and more lewd over the course of the game.

        It just feels weird that she only gets mildly embarrassed when she gets raped.

      • The word virginity never crossed my mind until now that you mention it, that’s how much I care about those particular ideas.

        I don’t think the “trauma” thing applies here even tho I see how it can go that way if things get to real (the term I used if I remember correctly was “mental distress”), and yeah, I purposefully avoid that, not saying that’s the reason for this one, I just never thought about it because I don’t really care for those themes/ideas.

        About the acknowledgement though, sure I noticed that and I know it can be off-putting to some, I tried to minimize with some sort of acknowledgement later but yeah I get it, maybe my thematic vanilla style is not your thing.

        Lastly, in general I just can’t find stuff like that enjoyable, I rather not go into somthing I don’t really understand even if it’s fitting, I rather have the visuals but not the implications.
